What We Do

The Newport Band Parents Association (NBPA) enriches our students’ band experience in many ways…

• We provide information to parents

• We encourage parent involvement with the band program

• We plan and host special events

• We coordinate volunteers

• We support the Newport High School Band staff

• We provide a forum for new ideas

• We raise and administer funds to support band opportunities and supplement the equipment budget, allowing us to buy and repair instruments for the students and to provide need-based student financial assistance for various events

2026-2027 NBPA Board

The NBPA and its board meet once per month during the school year, generally on the second Tuesday of the month. Check the Cut Time calendar for exact dates. Families of band members are welcome to join us for any of these meetings. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have.

Board Officer Duties

We greatly benefit from many fabulous volunteers who contribute to the NBPA. We invite you to consider the following positions.  Note that the Board is open to having co-officers, meaning more than one person having a given title. If anyone has specific questions about a position we can put you in touch with the current officer.

President - presides at all NBPA meetings and is a member of all committees; appoints all committee chairs and coordinates activities with them; acts as spokesperson for the NBPA at concerts, events, and other meetings as necessary.  Has the account debit card and access to the account; a key to the P.O. Box; and keys to the band trailer.

Vice-President - assumes the duties of the President in case of absence or incapacity; is a member of all committees; assists the President when called upon.

Treasurer - manages the NBPA budget; prepares the yearly budget plan and monthly budget updates for the board meetings. Holds the check book and manages payments for activites the NBPA supports and donations received;

Secretary - takes notes at business meetings and publishes them for approval at the next meeting.  Creates business meeting agendas.

Volunteer Co-Coordinator Co-chair - organizes volunteers for football game / marching band dinners, festivals, parades, trips, the Gala, etc.  Provides a description of each volunteer position’s duties and time slots.

Webmaster - makes updates to the website content; Renewing the domain registration (yearly); Administering newportband.com email accounts; Managing the hosting app (Google Workspace).  The time commitment would be around an hour per month, sometimes two. Some tech or systems administration knowledge is a plus!

Social Media Manager - upkeep of NBPA’s presence in social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).

Gala Committee Chair - plans Gala program in coordination with the band director and the NBPA Board; appoints sub-committees for the Gala (food, decorations, donations, etc.); chairs meetings of the Gala Committee; hires auctioneer and entertainment (as needed); learns to use SchoolAuction.net (the software package we use for the Gala).
